British Bouldering Championships Results

Saturday saw the British Bouldering Championships take place at the Cliffhanger event in Sheffield. A huge turnout of competitors - 22 females and 59 senior males - made for a fantastic day with the Mens & Womens finals taking place on Saturday afternoon.

With such a strong field, it was going to take something special to win. Gaz Parry put on an awesome show of experience, strength and endurance to win the Mens while Katy Whittaker styled her way to the Womens title.

After her win Katie Whittaker said: “I'm so pleased. I really wasn’t expecting it at all. There were loads of good competitors and the problems were brilliant. I'd say they were the best problems I’ve ever had in a competition”.

Gaz Parry said “The final was awesome! But thank god it’s over! I won in Interlaken and was feeling strong today but you can never be sure what will happen on the day as the competitors are all really good. To have that big a crowd at a British championship is absolutely amazing. The sound of the cheer for the first flash was fantastic. We’ve been talking about having the championships as a one-off event for a while and it’s brilliant that it's attracted more people to see it." One spectator was even heard to called Gaz a true machine!

Sunday saw the Junior British Bouldering Championships take place on the same wall as the Senior competition. The wall was situated inside a huge marquee which was a fantastic piece of foresight as the heavens opened and heavy rain fell all day.

The competiton was a huge success and the juniors showed that there is a strong pool of talent coming through British climbing. The results of the finals are below:
