Press Release:

Over 20,000 adrenaline-hungry, outdoor enthusiasts are due to descend on Sheffield’s Millhouses Park in just over a week’s time when the eagerly anticipated Cliffhanger event returns to the city.

What’s thought to be the UK’s largest outdoor event for outdoor people, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, not only features a host of activities, exhibitions, demonstrations and challenges, but is headlined by the British Bouldering Championships.

“The wait is over,” stated co-organiser Matt Heason. “Cliffhanger aims to not only deliver the goods, but exceed all expectations. There’s simply nothing like it on this scale anywhere else in the country – visitors are going to be blown away by the event.”

The British Bouldering Championships is the pinnacle of the competition-climbing year for rock climbers, pitting the very best in the country against each other in the hardest and most impressive of climbing disciplines. It will take place on a specially constructed boulder 5m high and 25m long, with no ropes or harnesses, distilling the activity into its rawest form, an inspirational spectacle like no other.

Also encompassing a national standard Orienteering UltraSprint, Mountain Bike Stunts and a North-Shore trail, 30 tonnes of real snow for Skiers and Boarders, Come-And-Try-It Climbing Walls, Kayak & Scuba Diving sessions, A Skateboarding Comp, Caving, Assault Courses, an Open Air Market and a Guinness World Record Dyno Competition, Cliffhanger will undoubtedly be the only place to be on the weekend of the 12 and 13; The Glastonbury of the Outdoor Pursuits aWorld.

Joe Simpson, patron to the event, said “It is really appropriate that Sheffield is hosting such a major event, as it is ideally placed to become the outdoor activities capital of this country, with a significant part of the city being within the Peak District National Park”.

Tickets for the extravaganza are £5 for adults – kids entry, programmes, and virtually everything in the event are FREE.

Cliffhanger is organised by Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside Department and Woodseats-based outdoor sports event consultants, Heason Events with backing from Decathlon, SportsPulse, Ford, University of Derby, Climber Magazine, Jewson, Peak FM, Premiere Inn, UKClimbing and The British Mountaineering Council.
