Event A Success
Despite some seriously heavy rain during setup on Friday and then throughout Sunday the very first Cliffhanger went smoothly and was well received by the thousands who attended. Last minute changes to the site plan were made in an attempt to make the most of the park and avoid the swamps, some exhibitors didn't make it (one was involved in a crash in heavy rain on the M1 en route to the event!), and Chinese Whispers circulating around the city that the event was cancelled due to the weather, were not enough to spoil the show. After all, it's an outdoor festival for outdoor people!
- A new Guinness World Record was set in the Dyno competition
- The British Bouldering Championships, held outside for the first time had a record number of entrants
- Retailers hit two-day targets in a day - and plenty of people left the event with bags full of bargains
- Challenge Cancer raised £360
- Al Hinkes, OBE gave a lecture and presented prizes to the Bouldering Champions
- The Scuba Pool had people in it within a minute of opening the gates on Saturday!
- All the come-and-try-it climbing walls were constantly swarmed over
- The inaugural UltraSprint saw a decent turnout and crowd on the Saturday and was enjoyed by members of the public too
- The local Parkour crew lead the way on Sunday, defying the torrential rain to continue training and giving demonstrations
