This was our first year attending Cliffhanger and I very much doubt it will be our last. The whole festival had a great feel to it with plenty of people who all seemed to be having a great time themselves.  The team made sure it ran really well, from set up through the festival and break down. The Cliffhanger event was a very well organised, enjoyable event which I was extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work at. Throughout the weekend 100s of people aged from toddlers to adults attempted our challenges. The coaches and I were very surprised to hear where people had come from just to visit Cliffhanger, we met people from as far away as Brighton, Cumbria and Newcastle, which shows how popular the event is! The weather was perfect and we were able to promote our upcoming holiday events. The event was very well organised and I felt safe leaving our equipment overnight as the site was secure. I would definitely be interested in attending again next year. Kind regards, Chris Hardy Community Development Officer Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme

Thought I'd send you a quick email just to say thank you for such a brilliant weekend! Me and my dad loved helping you out!  We will certainly come back next year!  The scouts also enjoyed it, - so much as one of them has decided to build a climbing wall in his barn! Thank you for all of your help & thank you for such a good weekend! Hope to keep in touch, and look forward to next year :-). Emma & Dave Hadley

2011 VISITORS

I cam with my partner and 14 year old son who is a complete novice, he tried the climbing wall, and we were all, including him really surprised he could only get about half way then didn't feel comfortable ... brave ... to go on. Since then and because of this experience he has been through a training course at the Manchester climbing wall and got his certificate for being able to belay as a 15 year old and he is now climbing walls graded at approximately 6, he has also been climbing int he outdoors in the Peak District, and he is so happy and proud of this achievement it has been such a great experience for him and all despite his rocky start. So thank you for that experience.

Many thanks for your hard work on Cliff Hanger. I visited all day yesterday and also took two families not from the city for their first taste. All thoroughly enjoyed it on what was a great example of what Sheffield can offer.
Thanks, Simon Green, Executive Director - Place, Sheffield City Council

It was great to see so many people of all ages enjoying the events and activities (and in the sunshine too!).  Everything seemed really well managed, well laid out and most importantly engaging and fun. The world bouldering cup was also very exciting and really engaged the crowd. Well done to all, look forward to next year. Amy Carter, Head of Arts, Museums and Cultural Promotion

Hi! Just wanted to say what a great festival and we're already planning to attend next years. It was a our first attendance and we had a small child and dog with us, excellent facilities, well laid out and plenty of 'free' participation activities. That was a key things for us is that you go to some places and pay to enter and then have to pay again for the activities. Great variation of stalls and exhibitors. Cheers guys! Great event and roll on 2012! x .

I did the two day camp and entry to the event and I thought it was an absolute bargain.  It was of course helped by the fantastic weather, however, it was still a great weekend.  The atmosphere on the campsite on the Saturday night was excellent and suitable for everyone, from the families with youngsters to the teenagers and oldies like myself.

2011 EXHIBITORS & ORGANISERS

I have been to 7 out of the 8 Boulder World Cups this year and modesty would normally prevent me from saying this but Sheffield was the best one. All of the elements were in place, a great wall, great setting, great teams of volunteers and workers, a great tent and a great crowd. Christian Core, a veteran of the 1st ever Boulder World Cup held in 1999, said Sheffield was one the best ones ever – praise indeed. I am proud that I was involved in such a great event. Graeme Alderson - IFSC Technical Delegate for the IFSC World Championships 2011 and 2012 and The Climbing Works Owner

From our point of view it was better than last year – Ben, NISE Skateboards

May I, on behalf of the Friends of Millhouses Park Executive Committee, take this opportunity to thank the Cliffhanger & Parks Teams for a huge amount of hard work and another very enjoyable weekend where we, as a group, were able to showcase the Friends, our work and ethos. We are always amazed at the collective good will,  freely expressed to us by members of the public, towards our work of making the park "A Better Place for Everyone". It is all the more important to say "thank you" knowing a little of the financial constraints that were imposed on you this year. John Brighton - Friends Of Millhouses Park

It was an absolute pleasure to be there. We were delighted to be part of the event - it was a fantastic weekend. The chat from everyone on the polo forum is overwhelmingly positive, with teams already pledging their attendance for next year!Thoughts from our visitors; what did you think? - Halannah, Soyo Bike Polo

The event was absolutely fantastic and I will certainly mention it to journalists when we receive enquiries throughout the year. Well done to you and the rest of the team. Hannah Brailey - Communications Executive, Creative Sheffield

"I enjoyed this event so much. The bouldering competition in particular was Amazing!!!"

Adam Carey - Sheffield City Kayak Club -

"As a club it was fantastic to give something back to the community in and around Sheffield, on a personal level all our coaches and staff said that they felt a great sense of achievement, and more importantly the public were eager and happy to try something that maybe they hadn't tried before, infact our membership has increased by 20% as a direct result of the Cliffhanger event with people wanting to take kayaking further, so all around a great result, a great event and a great team. Thanks to everyone who was involved"

Ali - 2010 Exhibitor -

"My boys had an absolute blast at Cliffhanger. They filled both days with exciting new adventures and LOVED it, so thank you for organising such a brilliant event. A lot of my friends came too and were all talking about it and were very impressed!"

Angela Smith MP -

"Cliffhanger gives people of all ages great opportunities for tasting sports that they wouldn’t necessarily think about getting involved in.  It’s a fantastic event and it’s absolutely right that it should be held in Sheffield, a city with a great sporting tradition and a solid reputation as a world-class centre for climbing"

Dan Saunders -

"Great event by the way - great atmosphere and loads to do. The free physio session alone more than covered the entrance fee!"

Graeme Alderson - IFSC Technical Delegate for Bouldering World Cups 2010 and The Climbing Works Owner -

"As the organiser of every single international bouldering competition held in the UK (5 World Cups, 1 European Championships and 9 other internationals) I can say, hand on heart, that this was the best one yet. The wall, the space, the crowd, the volunteers and the technology (thanks Tim) made it something special. To me the competition at Cliffhanger 2010 ranks extremely highly on the IFSC Bouldering World Cup circuit"

Jon Barton - Vertebrate Publishing -

"Just to say what a great event Cliffhanger was, the activities and climbing competition were well run, fun and interesting. Our stall had a real buzz about it... thanks also for organizing the sunshine"

Jon Dallow - Woodland Project Officer -

"A huge thank you to all involved in the bike activities @ cliff-hanger this weekend. The weekend appears to of been success. Both the Timber Trail and Rollapaluza were really well received by all involved and there was some great feedback on the day. I already have 3 booking for the MTB summer sessions program on my answer phone this morning so we all must be doing something right!"

"This was a super 'do!' I thoroughly enjoyed it and was astonished at the extent and variety of activities, stalls and facilities. Superbly managed. Please accept my thanks and pass them on to all the members in the "engine room" behind the scenes. Couldn't be bettered! PS: As for the freestyle climbers........Awesome!"

Narendra Bajaria CBE, Chair of the Peak District National Park Authority -

"The Cliff-hanger event for the people of Sheffield is an excellent opportunity to showcase recreation activities within the Peak District National Park and the Authority is delighted to promote such activities on the City's doorstep. We wholeheartedly support the City Council's commitment to promoting such activities for all to enjoy"

Peter Howarth - Sales Director at Arnold Lavers -

"We are proud to be associated with this event following the success of last year, which saw the festival improve once again in terms of both size and stature. As a local Company, supporting initiatives such as this are very important to us. We were pleased to be asked again to help, by the event organisers. Its also encouraging to see our materials being used in such an unusual manner, it's not often that we see people clambering over our products in the name of sport"

Steve Betts - South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership -

"Being placed directly next to the British Army zip wire was an excellent location as it meant we could focus our speed camera onto the person travelling down the line, this really helped us to show the public exactly how the cameras work and also provided a unique attraction for your event. Our staff that attended spoke to between 700 and 800 families/groups of people over the weekend with many leaving with a positive opinion of the cameras and our partnership, a great result for us"

Steve Marsden - Cycling Champions Project -

"I am sorry that i couldn't be with you this weekend as i was out of the country, but my family came with friends and said that they spent the whole day at the event and had a fantastic time and the kids wanted to go back the next day as they hadn't seen it all! So on a personal level thanks for making it a special day not for just my family but for the people of sheffield and wider.

Cliffhanger was superb.... Skyler breaking his record again was fab although injuring himself less so.... I managed 212.5cm... I was grabbing the 230cm mark, but not holding it... next time!!

The bouldering comp was amazing - such high quality competitors and stunning to see them in action... very inspiring stuff! Will have to see how I can do on Dartmoor this weekend..
